I’m Back!

I got back from vacation on Sunday. I had a fantastic time driving through the Pacific Northwest. Lots of gorgeous scenery. Anyway, I’m finally almost caught up with things. I only have about 19 / 50 orders left to ship and those are all just waiting on out of stock parts. I ordered nearly $7000 worth of electronic components, motors, pcbs, plastic, etc. Pretty much everything should be back in stock within a week or 2.

There are some things that are back in stock *now*:

60 new Sanguino kits are available.
15 more 5lb coils of ABS are available.

I’m doing RepRap stuff full time this week, and my freelance gig with the New York Times starts next week. I’ll be working part-time there, which means I’ll be able to put in 40-60 hours a week on RepRap. Lots of good things are in the pipeline. That freelance gig is probably 2-3 months, and after that its back to hacking full-time. Things are looking good. =)

  1. Welcome back :)

    Any plans on black ABS?

Regarding the Arduino breakout shield, could you add a led for the communication pins too in a future version? Now it’s quite hard to see if and how long a program upload takes, as the surface mounted tx/rx leds are hidden under the shield. One led would probably be enough if it could show both signals, although two leds would also be cheap enough.

Btw, why an RJ45 connector for the temperature sensor?

  2. What was the reason for the vacation, you stated previously that you would share it to us. I was expecting something big, like maybe a wedding announcement?

abs: eventually, once the RRRF has more capital to work with. stocking multiple colors means less money for other things (ie: more out of stock parts)

breakout shield: those pins are not actually available. you could put one on the rx/tx directly but it might interfere. the diecimila uses extra pins on the usb->serial chip itself for the blinkiness. i’ll experiment with it.

rj45: to make it easier to hook up. making .100″ cables is a PITA and takes hours to make all of them. with RJ45 is plug and play. plus they’re cheap, and widely available. dont worry though: there is still a .100″ header footprint onboard if you prefer to do it that way.

The vacation was to make a clean break, clear my mind, and enjoy the pacific northwest for a bit.
