Machinist Needed
Posted on December 5th, 2007 by Zach Smith
I’m looking for a machinist to make some of the parts for the extruder kit. More information is on the builders blog. I need your help in finding the best price… because it will help everyone!

Hi! I really like the idea behind the project; since my housemate and I already have a CNC milling machine, I think we might try strapping an extruder head to it, instead of “reinventing the wheel”. I want to see if I can come up with a way to use a “Cold Heat” soldering iron (it generates heat when a conductor bridges the in the graphite tip) and some solid-core, lead-free solder to make a head that extrudes metal. In the meantime, we also have a small CNC lathe, and I’d like to discuss making the parts you need for just the cost of materials and shipping. Since the lathe can also do threading, we can probably start with cold-rolled rod and make the whole piece in one mounting. Please let me know what you think, and keep up the good work!
